Maggots infested wounds (myiasis) are extremely common in tropical countries due to flystrike. We see some truly horrific maggot infested wounds in dogs and cats almost on a daily basis. It’s an agonizing condition and leads to a horrific death unless treated in time. Our sanctuary wound care protocols which includes Manuka honey, are extremely effective in these cases, along with other treatments like antibiotics. However, the wounds need time to heal which can take weeks.
